    Enemy of The People
    Kelvin MacKenzie

Kelvin MacKenzie was editor of the Sun during the 1980s and early 90s, and is responsible for some truly horiffic newspaper editing. Amongst his many “achievements” he is perhaps to thank for the Tories winning the 1992 election - despite all of the polls pointing towards a Labour Victory.

This is because of the Sun’s constant support for the Tories in 92 - the Sun having the famous headline on election day: “If Kinnock wins today, will the last person to leave Britain pelase turn out the light?” - with The Sun proudly boasting “It was the Sun wot won it” in the aftermath of the election.

MacKenzie apparently had a grip on the newsroom that only Sun owner Rupert Murdoch could overrule - to the extent where none of the staff dared to question his decision after the Hillsborough disaster, when 96 people died in a crush at a football match, to run a frontpage headlined “THE TRUTH”, claiming that Liverpool football fans stole from the dead. Despite this turning out to be bollocks, and despite circulation of The Sun dropping from over 200,000 to just 12,000 in the Liverpool area in response, MacKenzie has refused to apologise as recently as January 2007.

He was the man who established The Sun as the vile far-right bigoted organ it is today. He was the man who ran the jingoistic “GOTCHA!” headline after the sinking of the Belgrano, a retreating Argentinian warship during the Fawklands war.

In the early 80s, MacKenzie did sum up the readership of the Sun, with this rather blunt quote. It’s a good job the average Sun reader doesn’t know the meaning of the word “contempt”:

“You just don’t understand the readers, do you, eh? He’s the bloke you see in the pub, a right old fascist, wants to send the wogs back, buy his poxy council house, he’s afraid of the unions, afraid of the Russians, hates the queers and the weirdos and drug dealers. He doesn’t want to hear about that stuff (serious news).”

Hilariously, after David Davis resigned his seat recently, Kelvin said he would not be standing against him (being notoriously anti-politician). Then paymaster Murdoch allegedly told him that he WAS going to stand whether he wanted to or not, so he did a couple of photoshoots, during which he described part of the contsituency as ’shocking’.

National public opinion turned out to be behind Davis, so MacKenzie’s candidacy was soon withdrawn.

      Sieg Heil Mark,

Hardly surprising to see that you have failed to understand politics. You have already shown that you have failed to understand Racism and Bigotry.

I suspect that when you use terms like ‘right wing’ or ‘left wing’, you don’t use them with any kind of academic understanding. You simply reiterate and regurgitate an array of random, vapid mantras you have gleaned from a lifetime of soaking up intellectual flotsam and insipid nonsense found in low quality newspapers like the Daily Mail.

In any case, using one dimensional classifications like ‘left’ and ‘right’ is a slipshod way to debate politics; it obscures far more than it reveals and masks the founding principles of individual opinion.

Political ideology is influenced through social, authoritarian, religious and economic attitudes to name but just a few. It is not a simple straight line, it’s actually more of a circle (or perhaps even a sphere) and totalitarian systems tend to occur where varying extreme ideologies meet.

For example it is widely recognised that Fascism has elements of what you might describe as both ‘left’ and ‘right’ wing ideology.

If you wanted to make a fascist cake you would takes some hardcore social conservatism and traditionalism and mash them together with some left wing economics and state centralism, blend in a hefty splash of racism and garnish with generous pinch of military expansionism…

So you see, to say ‘Fascist Left’ is actually a bit meaningless.

Seriously, I don’t know why you bother to keep embarrassing yourself like this.

      John,

Is everything dumbing down just like the BBC?

      Tut tut…

Anyway, point taken, I will strive to dismantle ‘right wing’ claptrap in a lighter hearted way in future.

Not sure if that’s even possible but still.

      Quack

For more of the lies and plain evil spouted by this man after Hillsborough see here

      http://www.contrast.org/hillsborough/history/media.shtm

This piece of scum is still earning money from the BBC and as an after dinner speaker peddling his lies about this event. He still stands by his story which has been shown time and again to be bollocks.

      Dont Buy the Sun

This man is scum of the highest degree. Part of the bigoted, racist right wing media who like to scare the public into believing the utter tripe and lies that they perpetuate, this man being one of the main proponents in recent British history.

Also, the lies he refuses to acknowledge and still attempts to propagate, even on public broadcasters is disgusting, especially regarding Hillsborough. This man deserves no less than the utmost contempt. A disgusting specimen of a human being.

      JFT 96. Don’t buy the s*n.

      Nick

People who openly read the Sun and think it’s an actual newspaper are, in effect, making a pubic statement that they have an IQ lower than 75.

People who openly read the Daily Mail are just massive cunts

I can remember an old lecturer of mine telling me that the average reading age in terms of capabilities for The Sun is 6. It makes sense, because only someone with a mental age of 6 would believe the tosh that Kelvin Mackenzie spouted following The Hillsborough disaster.

The Sun is a pathetic newspaper read by pathetic people. Their numerous attempts at smear campaigns such as the one orchastrated by Mackenzie are laughable. They clearly thought that by ‘naming and shaming’ the Liverpool 27 in light of James Bulgers death that they would win back the hearts of Liverpudlians. They were wrong. An apology for Mackenzies actions in 2004 also came too little too late, they should have retracted any such statements immediately and clearly printed their ’sources’ (a Tory MP and an un-named PC trying to hang on to his job by the skin of his teeth) so that people could really see how ludicrous the claims were.

Nick, you are obviously suffering from some form of illness that prohibits you from judging what is and what isn’t quality reading material so I won’t pull out too many insults and I will try and hold back on words that go much further than being monosyllabic, but give The Independant, The Guardian and The Times ago…you might actually learn something.

@Don Canard: Excellent response to the sun reader Don, also liked the lesson handed out to the amoeba who thought the fascist left was a clever quote.
Anyway I’ve just seen the odious KM debating with Yasmin Alibi Brown on Sky news about tomorrows papers, surprise, surprise he thinks those of us who think Ashcroft has a few questions to answer are jealous of his money!!!
That is MacKenzie’s god, money, he appears to judge people on how much they have and in his eyes the more you have the better a person you are…a truly awful excuse for a human being.
